The final part of my new Evensong is the Preces and Responses.

These are antiphonal portions of the service. When Evening Prayer is spoken, it normally happens as a set of statements from the leader (often but not necessarily a member of the clergy) and the congregation. In Evensong, the prayers are led by a cantor with the choir responding. There is a brief set of prayers at the beginning called the Preces. Later in the service are the Responses. Finally, there is a Dismissal.
This is the combined choirs from St. Paul’s KCMO and Grace Cathedral, Topeka. The cantor is the amazing counter-tenor, Zachary Cope. It’s all lovingly and sensitively conducted by Dr. Eduardo Garcia-Novelli who is also the DCA at the University of Kansas.
